COASTAL OCEAN MODEL TESTBED (COMT)

COMT is a national program working to unify the modeling efforts of federal and research communities to create the most comprehensive forecasting models possible.

Climate change, more frequent and powerful storms, and sea level rise all pose massive challenges to which coastal communities must prepare for and adapt. It’s essential that resource managers and city officials have access to forecasting models that can accurately predict the effects of changing conditions, both in the short and long term.

NECOFS, which was funded by COMT and focuses on the Gulf of Maine, is working to deliver improved ocean and coastal inundation forecasts to stakeholders throughout the Northeast. NECOFS is combining a number of preexisting models for the coast and ocean, including several that were the result of an earlier COMT project, into one unified model that allows for more accurate prediction.
