The NERACOOS Wind and Wave Forecast includes wind speed, duration and direction; wave height, direction, duration and period; as well as a comparison to buoy observations for validating the forecast predictions. The forecast covers a 48 hour period and is presented in 3 hour increments. Select the buoy from the drop down list above get the latest forecast.
Models used in the forecasts:
This product integrates wind and wave data from two different models: The wind model is the North American Mesoscale (NAM) model from the NOAA National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP). The wave forecast is the WAVEWATCH III model run by the Bedford Institute of Oceanography (BIO) in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
The development of this forecast was funded through a grant from the NOAA Fisheries FATE program through the Cooperative Institute for Climate and Ocean Research (CICOR) at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI), a not-for-profit research institute that has fostered collaborative research between NOAA scientists and university scientists and students since its inception in 1999. http://www.nrc.noaa.gov/ci/locations/cicor.html
